Abstract

901,197. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. BRITISH BELTING & ASBESTOS Ltd. April 17, 1961, No. 13735/61. Drawings to Specification. Addition to 705,303. Class 42 (1). [Also in Group XXV] A method of jointing textile belting or webbing comprises providing the two ends to be joined with complementary notched or toothed formations across the full width of the belting or webbing and adapted to provide relatively long jointing faces extending substantially lengthwise of the belting or webbing, fitting the notched or toothed formations together so as to leave a small gap between the edges of the formations, filling the gap with a polyurethane compound while still liquid and curing by the application of heat. The notches are preferably V-shaped with the sides thereof at not more than 30 degrees with the edge of the belt or web and preferably at 2-3 degrees thereto. The curing may be done in an oven or between the platens of a press under slight pressure and various filler pigments, plasticizers and/or stabilizers may be added to the polyurethane compound.
