Abstract

901,147. Packaging-machines. VOGT, C. W. Aug. 2, 1960, No. 26721/60. Class 94(1). Powder is blown into open-topped containers through an aperture in a foraminous filling member and the container is moved relative to the member to compress the powder. The containers may be supplied as a preformed sheet or may be formed by vacuum drawing a sheet of plastic M into cavities in moulds 10A on an intermittently rotated wheel 10. The filling means comprises a hopper 35 having rotatable outlet valves 39, 40 which, after having permitted material to fall through passages 41 into filling funnels 56, 57, are rotated 90 degrees to the position shown. Each mould is raised by means 21, 22, to bring the containers into contact with a frame 68 on the filling means and air or neutral gas then enters through screens 50 to blow powder from the valves and funnels through apertures 59, 60 into the containers 11, 12. The gas escapes through the foraminous member 61 and vents 62, 63. The frame 68 is mounted for vertical movement relative to the filling means by cam bars 75, and after filling, it rises with the mould 10A. This causes the fixed member 61 to approach the container mouths and thus compress the powder. The mould and frame are then lowered and the containers may be sealed by application of a cover sheet (not shown).
