Abstract
A material for an electric contact consists of (by weight) 2-20% of a first component Pb, Tl or Bi; 1-10% of a second component formed by one or more of Sb, Zn, Ni, Cr, Ag, Sn and Cd; and a third component, Cu, constituting the balance. When the first component is Bi the second component is exclusively Sn. The material may be made by fusion or sintering. As an example of this latter method, a 85 Cu/10Pb/5Ag powder mixture having a grain size less than 0.06 mm. is pressed at 1 ton/cm.2 and sintered at 650-800 DEG C. for one-half hour. The compact is then coined at 10 ton/cm.2
