A plucked-reed instrument is generally similar to that described in Specification 804,131 but differs in the method of mounting the straining- bar 17. In the present case this is effected by means of sheet-metal strips surrounding the straining-bar, at least one of the strips serving also as a sound-post. In one embodiment, Figs. 2 and 3, four strips 27 have holes at each end through which pass the straining-bar 17 and a mounting-bar 28 which is secured by means of a U-shaped sheet-metal strip 30 to the far wall of the resonant body 10, 14. The strip 30 forms a sound-post. A tension-bar 33 extends completely across the body 10, 14. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4, two metal strips 40 are bent as shown, and apertured to receive the straining- bar 17. In a third embodiment, Figs. 6 and 7, a metal plate is slotted to form strips 44 which are bent round the straining-bar 17 between the reeds 25, and the plate is fixed by screws through the front 10 of the body to a second plate 48, which acts as a tension-bar and has a limb 49 serving as a sound-post.
