Abstract
900,179. Air-cooled combined surface condenser and condensate cooler. HAPPEL G.m.b.H., [trading as GEA LUFTKUHLERGESELLSCHAFT HAPPEL G.m.b.H. & CO. KOMM.-GES.]. Oct. 27, 1958, No. 34369/58. Class 64 (3). In a heat exchanger comprising an air-cooled condenser tube unit and a condensate-cooler tube unit connected in series therewith, the condenser tube units 2a, 2b are arranged in gable fashion at an acute angle to one another with at least one fan 9 mounted at the base plane thereof, above a suction chamber 4, the side walls of which are defined by vertically extending rows of generally horizontal condensate-cooling elements 6a, 6b, the fan or fans being positioned to suck a current of cooling air over the tubes of the condensate cooler and to blow this air over the condenser tubes. In the form shown, steam enters the conduit 1 and flows thence to the elements 2a, 2b from which it is discharged mainly as condensate through conduits 3a, 3b leading to the condensatecooling elements 6a, 6b. Uncondensed gases together with any uncondensed steam pass to reflux condenser units 8a. Cooled condensate is discharged from the lowermost of the elements 6a, 6b through conduits 7a which incorporate a control valve 16, sight glass 17 and a U-bend to maintain the elements 6a, 6b full of condensate. Air is impelled by the fan or fans 9 over elements 6a, 6b and then over elements 2a, 2b and may be cooled en route by water jets 10, 10a, 10b. The fan may be regulated in accordance with the temperature of the cooling air. A servicing platform 12 may incorporate screens 12a to separate the inflowing and outflowing air streams.
