Abstract

An aqueous acidic coating solution of CrO3 and Cr2(SO4)3 with a total of CrVI (calculated as CrO3) and CrIII (calculated as Cr2(SO4)3) of from 10-50 grammes per litre, a ratio of CrVI to CrIII of 0,2-4,0 and a pH of 0,8-2,8 has (NH4)2 SO4 added in the concentration given by the formula <FORM:0899599/II/1> This solution may be used to produce chemical coatings on zinc or zinc based alloy surfaces. Replenishment may be by the addition of CrO3, Cr2(SO4)3 , 6-7H2O, (NH4)2 SO4 and H2SO4.
