Abstract

898,824. Spinning yarns; opening fibres. FEHRER, E. Oct. 22, 1958 [Nov. 9, 1957; June 9, 1958], No. 33740/58. Classes 120(1) and 120(3) One or more twisted or untwisted rope-yarns (i.e. yarns of coarse fibres such as coconut, coir or sisal which form basic material for manufacture of ropes, cords, mats or carpets) having a diameter of at least 10 m.m. is/are disintegrated to obtain separated fibres which are formed into a web at a speed exceeding that of the feed of yarn to the disintegrator and the web is spun or twisted into rope-yarn less than 6 m.m. in diameter. As shown in Fig. 1, coarse yarns supplied from drums 1 and collected by an eye 3 are fed by rollers 4 to an opening cylinder 2. Separated fibres ejected through an opening 5 in casing 6 are uniformly distributed by an oscillating tubular shoot 7 over a highspeed conveyer belt 8 to form a web which is received by a drafting unit 9 and twisted by a flyer arm and bobbin 11. As shown in Fig. 2, yarn withdrawn from a drum 1 through a rotary guide tube 12 is untwisted between feed rollers 4 and rollers 13.
