Abstract

898,400. Selective stencil cutting and inking apparatus. CREED & CO. Ltd. Sept. 9, 1960 [Sept. 12, 1959], No. 31174/60. Classes 100(2) and 100(4) A screen-type selective character-printing apparatus is arranged so that only the position of the character to be printed is inked. A lever 4 is used to set a printing screen 3 so that the desired character can be printed on a sheet 1 fed in a letter spacing direction by a drum 2. The ink employed contains ferromagnetic pigment so that it is affected by magnetic or electrostatic forces and is applied by a container 5, having a character width mouth, reciprocated between surfaces 6 which close the container. An electro-magnet 8 is reciprocated within the drum to attract the ink through the screen 3 on to the sheet 1 so that the ink is completely transferred from the screen. Preferably the pole piece of the magnet has a knife edge and is reciprocated in synchronism with the ink container 5.
