Abstract

897,856. Securing door-handles on shafts. ENGSTFELD, K. June 16, 1960 [Sept. 3, 1959], No. 21227/60. Class 80 (2). A door-handle 13 is longitudinally secured to an end 2 of a square spindle 1 by a spring strip 9 which engages a flat 5 along a spindle edge, is bent along a longitudinal crown 8, and has arms 6, 7 the extremities 10 of which are reversely bent to clear the flat 5 and are indented to bite into the handle material when a radial screw 12 in the handle acts on the crown 8. The flat 5 is inclined relatively to the spindle axis, the spring strip 9 being appropriately wedge-shaped, so that grip is increased by axial pulling of the handle relative to the spindle. Claws 14 retain the spring strip in the spindle. The spindle edge 15 opposite the flat 5 is relieved to ensure satisfactory fitting of the adjacent spindle sides 16 in the handle aperture. A permanently fixed handle is cast or pressed in known manner on to the opposite spindle end 3.
