[Also in Group XL (a)] A device for relieving pressure from a space 4 forming part of the cooling gas circuit of a nuclear reactor where this gas is radioactively contaminated, comprises a bursting disc 1 which normally obstructs flow out of the space 4 and a safety or relief valve 2 on the downstream side of the disc, this disc being mounted on an extractable slide and supported against bursting on its upstream side by a grill 5, a chamber 3 between the disc and the safety valve having a pressure connection 11 for maintaining a barrier fluid in this chamber at a pressure less than that at which the safety valve 2 operates but greater than the normal operating pressure in the reactor cooling circuit. The cooling circuit is also surrounded by a contained volume of barrier fluid in a space 8, excess pressure in this space being relieved through a second bursting disc 10 into a chamber 7 on the outlet side of the safety valve 2, this chamber 7 being relieved to a line 13 through a second safety or relief valve 6. A pressure-equalizing opening 9 connects the chamber 7 with the space 8, and the disc 10 is supported against bursting into the space 8 by a grill and is also mounted on an extractable slide (not shown). The chamber 7 can be temporarily subjected through a line 12 to a pressure in excess of that at which the safety valve 6 opens, in order to test the working of this valve. Similarly, the working of valve 2 may be tested by temporarily increasing the pressure in chamber 3 through line 11.
