Abstract

897,190. Making bolts; assembling force fits. LAMSON & SESSIONS CO. Sept. 28, 1959 [March 23, 1959], No. 32898/59. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XXV] A bolt comprises a shank 13, Fig. 1, with helical rows of knurl projections 14 formed by rolling adjacent projections in each row being separated by annular grooves 15, a part spherical head 11 at one end with a flat top 30, and a screwed part 12 at the other. The shank may have tapered portions to each side of a parallel centre 10, to facilitate ins tion into misaligned holes. Each projection converges radially outwardly from a base 20, Fig. 2, to an apex 21 and has a convexly curved leading end 22 and a sloping trailing end 24. The apex may be flattened as at 26. The dimensions B, C and H are set out in a table for various shank diameters. The flat top is said to facilitate hammering the bolt head without damaging same when driving the bolt into holes, the line of interference being indicated at 25, Fig. 2.
