Abstract

896,793. Bending cardboard. WELLPAPPENFABRIK G.m.b.H. April 7, 1959 [Sept. 13, 1958], No. 11677/59. Class 100(2) [Also in Group XVII] In an apparatus for folding blanks of cardboard or the like the blanks 13 are guided between endless conveyer belts 2 and resilient rotatably mounted counter surfaces pressing on the conveyer belts from above and adjustable to accommodate different widths of blank, for example rollers 19 mounted in carriers 5, 7, the outer portions a of the blanks being progressively folded over towards one another by endless belts 11 spaced from each other and guided in movement so that the planes thereof are progressively rotated through 180 degrees, and the bent portions of the blanks are pressed, by loading means before the blanks are discharged from the apparatus. The carriers 5, 7 and a further carrier, not shown, disposed between them are mounted above the conveyer belts 2 on horizontal spindles such as 15 along which they are adjustable. The blanks 13 are grooved before they are fed into the apparatus and the rollers 19 of the carriers 5, 7 bear upon the blanks adjacent to two of the grooves, a disc 9 carried on the outside of each carrier engaging in and deepening each groove. Angled members 10 are mounted on the carriers 5, 7 adjacent to the discs 9 and provide edges around which the blank parts a are bent. The upper runs of the belts 11 which initially lie in a horizontal plane are guided by rollers 17 and are progressively twisted through 180 degrees. As the rollers 17 on one side of the machine are staggered in relation to those on the other side one blank portion a is folded flat against the remainder of the blank before the other. When both portions a have been folded over a resilient roller presses down upon each fold before the blank is discharged from the conveyer belts 2. The rollers on the carrier disposed between the carriers 5, 7 press upon a central groove in the blank 13 and thereby help to keep the main part of the blank in a horizontal plane. The horizontal part of the carrier 5 is longer than that of the carrier 7 and that of the central carrier is longer than those of both the others.
