A mounting for the fixed tool of a guillotine or press brake comprises a rebated bolster-receiving member with a lengthwise parallel-sided groove extending horizontally into the crossmember from the base of the rebate to receive a tongue on the bolster and of sufficient horizontal depth for the tongue to remain in at least partial engagement with the groove for all working positions of the bolster. Fig. 1 shows the bolster receiving member 11 which extends between extensions 12 of the side-plates 4 (only one shown) of the machine. The extensions are joined by plates 13, 14 and 15 to form a box girder which is stiffened by spaced apart webs corresponding in shape to the extensions 12 and includes a T-slotted cross-member 20 which receives support members 21 which have cooperating T-projections 22. The member 11 has a rebate with a base 19 and a rear face 18, from the bottom of which a groove 25 extends and receives a tongue 27 on the bolster 16. The bolster is adjusted relative to the member 11 by set screws threaded into the member and the fixed tool 17, and the bolster 16 are clamped to the member 11 by bolts 30 and nuts 31. The movable blade 2 is bolted to a carrier 1 which is part of a welded construction comprising a block 5 and plates 6, 7 and 8 which is guided between the front and back plates 3 and 9 respectively of the machine. In a modification for bevel cutting (see Fig. 3, not shown), the blade 17 has the top surface 34 inclined and the work rests on inclined supports carried by plates which have T-projections to fit the T- slots 23. Both edges of the blade are bevelled and it is supported by wedges underneath.
