Abstract

895,913. Continuous casting - machines. DEMAG A.G. July 24, 1959 [Aug. 16, 1958], No. 25574/59. Class 83 (1). A continuous casting-machine with automatic withdrawal comprises two ingotclamping devices operating below the mould, and control means by which the ingot gripped by one of the clamping devices is slowly lowered as the other clamping device returns to its initial position. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, the hydraulic clamping cylinders 2, 3, 11 and 12, are mounted on platforms 4, 10 suspended on cables. The lower platform 10 also supports cut-off burners 40. As the ingot passing through is clamped by the cylinders on the upper platform 4 the piece to be cut-off is clamped by the cylinders 11, 12. After cutting-off the ingot is released by the clamps 11, 12 and the platform 10 returns to its initial position in which it clamps the continuous casting so that the platform 4 may be released and returned to its initial position. The lower platform 10 may also be made to transfer the cut-off ingot to a spring- loaded tilting support 41 from which it is transferred to a conveyer &c. The drive of the platforms may be arranged to give a fast return of either or both platforms to the initial position or positions &c.
