Abstract

895,120. Filters. PALL CORPORATION. Nov. 12, 1958 [Nov. 14, 1957], No. 36408/58. Class 46. [Also in Group II] A filter unit consists of a mesh element 107 made of stainless steel filaments and iron nickel alloy wire, the element being corrugated and located on a compression member in the form of a spring 117. A magnetic trap 118 comprises a pair of concentric tubular wire mesh elements 121, 122 between which are fitted permanent magnets 123 and stacks 126 of woven wire mesh. Magnetic strands 127 run parallel to the pole faces of the magnets and are interwoven with non-magnetic strands 128, Fig. 6. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), a stack comprises a wire screen folded in accordion fashion with the folds running perpendicular to the magnetic field. The lower end of the magnetic trap is engaged by a plate 119 held in place by a snap ring 120. In operation, fluid is caused to pass radially inwardly through the stacks 126, through the element 107, and out through an opening 110.
