Abstract

Iron and its alloys are produced and refined by the process described and claimed in the parent Specification wherein the gas used in passing through the bore of the tubular carbon electrode to the arc is argon containing 0,05 to 20% by volume oxygen. A reducing gas or a powdered reducing solid may be mixed with the argon.
