Abstract

893,919. Centrifugal separators. SCHOELLER-BLECKMANN STAHLWERKE A.G. 31 March, 1960 [April 2, 1959], No. 11453/60. Class 23. The pressure energy of the oil, water and gas mixture from a well is utilized to drive a separator which separates the mixture into components. The separator drum is supported on a stationary feed pipe 5 by bearings 14, 15, a resilient ring being interposed between the drum and the bearing 16 and the bearing 14 being self aligning. The mixture from the feed pipe discharges through nozzles 6 to impinge on turbine vanes 19 formed on the drum interior. Water and any solids present in the mixture are discharged intermittently or continuously from the drum through an adjustable pipe 23, purified oil is withdrawn from the drum through a stationary skimmer 8 and pipe.7, and gas is discharged from the top and bottom of the drum and is removed from the drum casing through a pipe 24. A valve in the pipe 24 controls the pressure of the discharging gas and also the pressure of the discharging oil, increased oil pressure accompanying a decrease in gas pressure. A brake, a tachometer or a motor may be connected to the drum by spur gears 25, 26. The mixture may be mixed with emulsion breaking chemicals and warmed before feeding to the separator. Two of the separators may be arranged in series, the first separator discharging the oil emulsifier with some of the water and the second separator separating the emulsion.
