Abstract
893,887. Suspended furnace roofs. VEITSCHER MAGNESITWERKE A.G. Dec. 16, 1959 [Dec. 22, 1958], No. 42847/59. Class 51 (2). In a suspended roof for a metallurgical furnace the specific surface pressure between individual bricks is preserved at an approximately constant low value in order to lengthen the life of said roof. The arch bricks 1 are suspended from supports 5 carried by hangers 8 and 9 engaging transverse members 11 with the intervention of springs 10, the tension of which is adjusted by nuts 12. The arch is also supported by a fixed skew-back 2 and a resilient skew-back 4 subject to an adjustable tension by spring 3. As the roof wears and loses weight it rises slightly, decreasing the lateral compressive force exerted by the skewback. The invention is also applied to a flat arch, Fig. 2 (not shown).
