Abstract

The invention comprises 3-(21-methyl- and 21-ethylamino propyl)-indoles, their pharmaceutically acceptable addition salts with inorganic or organic acids, and the preparation thereof by formylating or acylating 3-(21-aminopropyl)-indole and reducing the carbonyl group of the resulting formyl or acetyl compound to the methylene group and, if desired, converting the resulting base into an acid addition salt. Acylation is preferably carried out with acetic anhydride or a mixture of acetic anhydride and formic acid and the acyl group reduced by lithium aluminium hydride. Pharmaceutical compositions contain the above compounds together with a carrier. The compositions are useful as psychos timulants and may be prepared in a conventional form suitable for enteral or parenteral administration, e.g. tablets, dragees, suppositories, capsules, solutions, emulsions or suspensions.
