Abstract
893,652. Photographic diffusion - transfer procedures. INTERNATIONAL POLAROID CORPORATION. Nov. 23, 1960 [Dec. 9, 1959], No. 40305/60. Drawings to Specification. Class 98(2). A print-receiving element has a receiving stratum with concentration of silver precipitating agent decreasing towards the surface to which processing fluid is applied. In use undesirable effects, such as bleaching or yellowing of the precipitated image when formed on the surface of the stratum only, are alleviated. The print-receiving element may have a silver halide emulsion superposed or able to be superposed thereon and may carry a rupturable container of processing composition as well. The precipitating agent is in particular colloidal silver but numerous sulphides and selenides of heavy metals are quoted for the purpose and they may be dispersed in a matrix of inert material of which many are quoted. Additionally the precipitating agent may be a soluble salt or of various organic materials. An illustrative method of preparing the print-receiving element is by evaporating silver on to carboxymethyl cellulose powder, dissolving the product in aqueous gelatin containing deacetylated chitin, coating on polyvinyl butyrate coated baryta paper and re-coating with a second layer ten times diluted.
