Abstract

893,384. Foundry plant. BARTLETT & SNOW CO., C.O. March 22, 1960 [March 30, 1959], No. 10121/60. Class 83 (1). A mould is deposited on a closed-loop conveyer of sufficient width to carry at least two laterally spaced lines of moulds, poured, moved from one line into the other and conveyed therein around the loop at least until it passes the point of depositing new moulds and is cooled, and is then removed from the loop for subsequent handling. Moulds 12 from a moulding machine 16 are placed on the outer track of a conveyer 11, Fig. 1, and move through a pouring zone 20-21. Thereafter, just before reaching the position where new moulds are deposited, the poured moulds are moved laterally on to the inner track by a pusher 23 and continue to travel with the conveyer the operator shifting the mould weight 19 from each poured mould to the adjacent new mould. At the removal station 29 the poured and cooled moulds on the inner track are diverted by guides 30 on to a driven conveyer 31 leading to shake-out rails 32 over which each mould is pulled by a reciprocating arm 35, Fig. 2. The sand falls into a hopper 40 while the casting is deposited in a coolant tank 41 and removed therefrom by a conveyer 42. The empty flasks travel on a belt 44 to a roller platform 45 adjacent the moulding machine. New sand is added to the shake-out sand in the hopper 40 from a hopper 46 via a vibrating conveyer 47, and the new and used sand is transported by a conveyer 49 to a screen cleaner 50, from which tailings &c. pass to a box 53 while clean sand passes to a bin 51, thence to a muller, to which binder is supplied, and from there by conveyer to a sand box at the moulding machine.
