893,251. Power-generating systems. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. Aug. 13, 1959 [Aug. 13, 1958; May 11, 1959], No. 26069/58 and 16134/59. Drawings to Specification. Divided out of 16134/59. Class 122 (3). [Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVIII] The starting-up, running, and closing-down of a pulverized fuel burning, super-heated steam generator, and its associated steam turbine are said to be automatically controlled by a digital computer. To this end, 15 temperature indicators, 8 tachometer generators, 7 flow-meters and 5 pressure-indicators are stated to be connected as inputs to the computer, which is said to compare their readings against programmed values, in a programmed sequence, and as a result control the positioning of 20 stop-valves, 7 linear actuators and 5 dampers, all of which signal back their condition to the computer. The locations of all these devices in an otherwise substantially conventional power station layout are shown, and a flow sheet setting out the sequence of events forming the starting-up procedure for the plant is given.
