Abstract

892,915. Magnetic switches. COULTHARD & CO. Ltd., WILLIAM (Houdaille Industries Inc.). Aug. 5, 1959, No. 26663/59. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXIX] A fluid-flow indicator comprises a body 12 having a passageway 14 through it adapted to be connected in a fluid-flow path, a plunger 48 working in the passageway or in a bushing 36 therein and biased by a spring 54 towards a position in which it closes the fluid inlet end of the passageway, and a magnet 56 movable by the plunger 48 under the action of fluid pressure acting thereon and adapted to actuate electric or electronic control means when moved a predetermined amount by fluid-flow. The bore of the passageway 14 is larger than the diameter of the magnet so that there is a space around the magnet for the flow of fluid. The bushing 36 has a port 44 positioned so as to be uncovered by the plunger 48 when it has moved a predetermined extent under the action of the fluid pressure to connect the inlet and outlet ends of the passageway 14. A magneticallyactuated switch 62 is housed in a cavity 20 in the body 12. Leads 66, 68 for the switch are connected with an electrical or electronic circuit for energizing a signal device 69 such as an indicating lamp, a horn, relays to ring phones, shut-off motors or the like.
