Abstract
892,745. Copy grinding. WACHTBERGER, G., [trading as WACHTBERGER VORM. E. FRANKE MASCHINENFABRIK, GOTTFRIED]. July 6, 1959 [July 11, 1958], No. 23074/59. Class 60. [Also in Group XXII] A turbine blade copying machine comprises a cutting tool 56, or grinding wheel, and a follower 12 both carried on a slide 46 movable vertically by a differential piston 51 on a longitudinally movable and rotatable ram 13. The machine may have several copying units 7, for a number of blades 11 held by clamps 10 in line with templates 9. The ram 13 reciprocates on a fixed piston 15 and carries with it a rack 21 to rotate a shaft 25 carrying cams which control the limits of reciprocation. The shaft 25 also carries an eccentric operating a pump 31 supplying lubricant through lines 32, 33, 34. The ram 13 is rotated in steps by a cross-feed rack member 40 engaging a pinion on a ring 35 having rollers 38 engaging ribs on the ram. The slide 46 is moved downwardly against a spring 61 by the piston 51 and the follower is carried on a relieving arm 48 operated by a piston 49. The pressures on the pistons can be varied. The tool holder 55 is clamped by a knurled member 59 acting through bevel gears 58. Figs. 11 to 13 illustrate the paths of tools in machining a concave face, a convex face and two side-by-side blades. For milling a shoulder on the blade, a milling cutter 76, Fig. 9, rotated by a motor 83, is mounted on a slide 84 adjustable vertically on the slide 46. The ram 13 is then oscillated without reciprocation. A grinding wheel 87, Fig. 10, rotated by a turbine wheel 95 may also be fitted on the slide 46, the wheel 95 being rotated by compressed air or the cooling medium of the machine. The wheel is fed downwardly by a thread 901 which moves the wheel twice the amount by which a trueing diamond 91 is moved by a thread 90. One template may be used to shape two blades.
