Abstract

892,449. Stapling machines. OFREX Ltd. Sept. 28, 1960 [Oct. 2, 1959], No. 33507/59. Class 89(3) A stapling machine comprises a staple magazine 1, a cap 2, an anvil support 3 which is pivoted to the cap and magazine at 4, and an operating lever 5 straddling support 3 and pivoted to the cap at 7. The magazine is of inverted channel section having inturned shoulders 25 at the end adjacent the driving blade 8, for supporting the staple legs, and the staples 14 are loaded from the underneath side, and pressed towards blade 8 by a spring urged block 26 carried by a rod 28 pivoted at 4. To load the magazine, support 3 is pressed towards blade 8 against spring 18 to disengage a projection 33 on the support from lever 5, and the lever is swung to the left about pivot 7, thus allowing support 3 to be swung to the right about pivot 4, and the magazine is loaded. Members 3, 5, are swung back again so that depression of lever 5 will produce a camming section on support 3 at 11, and anvil 13 engages the lower side of the magazine and moves it upwardly with respect to blade 8, thus severing and clinching a staple. Anvil 13 is releasably secured to a spring 15 to allow reversal of the anvil for clinching staples so that their legs are towards or away from each other. Specification 756,534 is referred to.
