Abstract
Electrolytically deposited metal is removed from a base metal by immersion in a liquid medium comprising a substituted or unsubstituted primary, secondary or tertiary amine having basic properties, an aliphatic nitro-organic compound having 2-6 carbon atoms and/or an aromatic nitro-organic compound having one or more substituted nitro groups, and, if desired, an aqueous organic or inert solvent. The pH value of the medium may be adjusted to between 6 and 12 by the addition of a mineral acid other than sulphuric acid or an organic acid. The base metal may be steel, copper or copper alloy and the coating metal may be nickel.
