Abstract

891,927. Magnetic information storage apparatus. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. April 9, 1959 [April 15, 1958; June 12, 1958], No. 16189/61. Divided out of 885,755. Class 40 (9). A memory array is formed by applying coincident current sense and inhibit windings on base 30 (Fig. 1) around each of a number of former pins 40p, each of which projects through a hole in base 30 when bases 30 and 40 are brought together, cementing the coil sets thus formed on to base 30 and replacing the pins 40p by magnetic rod-like elements 42. The magnetic elements 42 may be cemented in place or their lower ends may rest on an adhesive film 35. The windings may be disposed in a balanced arrangement to eliminate noise and capacitance effects. In another arrangement (Figs. 4, 7 and 9), a mould is formed by a base 80 (Fig. 7), carrying pins 82, on which windings are wound as shown in Fig. 4, a spacer 85 and a top plate 83. After the windings have been formed, spacer 85 and top plate 83 are clamped to base 80 as shown in Fig. 8 and the windings are embedded in suitable insulating material such as wax or a liquid monomer polymerized to a solid. The panels 130 so formed may be stacked (Fig. 11), square loop magnetic wire members 140 being inserted. These members 140 may be wholly of magnetic material or may be copper wire plated with magnetic material.
