Abstract

A pneumatic pulsator for a milking machine, preferably having two or four pistons reciprocating in cylinders which control two slide valves for the distribution of atmospheric or reduced pressure to the teat-cup assembly, varies the relative time of compression and expansion of the teats by subjecting at least one piston to a different driving force to that of the other pistons. This may be accomplished if any one of four ways each of which is described in detail namely (i) by having one piston of a different size to the other pistons, (ii) by providing a spring to resist the motion of one of the pistons, (iii) by the controlled admission of air to a cylinder through a calibrated orifice in the cylinder wall and (iv) by the controlled admission of air into a cylinder by an orifice in the piston. The invention is also applicable to diaphragm operated pulsators. Specification 655,239 is referred to.
