The plug portion 10 of an electrical connector comprises a housing 14 provided with a bore 16 which has a portion of restricted diameter to receive a tubular spring 26. Spring-like fingers or tongues 56, 58, 60 are provided on the spring and each has a shoulder 62 adjacent a cam surface 64. A pin contact 24 includes a shoulder 44 having a taper section 46, and a rear shoulder 52 is located on a portion 40 which receives the bared conductor of an insulated wire 70. In assembly, the spring 26 is slipped over the pin 38 of the contact and after riding up the section 46, is located longitudinally between the shoulders 44, 52. The body section 66 of the spring clamps round a portion 68 of the pin. When inserting the pin assembly into the housing 14, the taper section 46 centres the contact and the cam surfaces 64 cause the spring to be compressed as its front edge passes through the restricted portion of the bore 16. When the shoulder 62 of the spring passes beyond the restricted portion of the bore the spring returns to its original configuration and the pin assembly is locked within the housing. A socket contact has four spring-like fingers or tongues 82 and has cam surfaces 92 corresponding to the surfaces 64 of the plug spring 26. The wire conductors and their insulation are secured by crimping. To remove the pin or socket from the housing a rod-like tool having a hollow tubular portion is slipped over the front of the pin or socket and caused to ride up the cam socket or the shoulders 62 of the spring 26 are surfaces 64 or 92. The shoulders 90 of the thus disengaged from corresponding shoulders of the insulating housings 14 and the contacts withdrawn. Multiple pin and socket connections are specified.
