Abstract

891,171. Spare wheel carriers. HANDS (LETCHWORTH) Ltd. April 26, 1960 [April 28, 1959], No. 14534/59. Class 136(1). A vehicle spare wheel carrier comprises a body member 3, 4 provided at one end with a projection 5 on which the periphery 14 of the central opening of a wheel 12 can be engaged so that the wheel can be swung up to a carrying position (as shown in Fig. 1), using the projection as a fulcrum, the carrier also having means to hold the wheel in the carrying position. When the wheel has been swung up it is retained in the horizontal position by a hinged catch 6 whilst bolts 8, 9, connected by a strop 10 passing under the wheel are engaged to connect the bolt holes in the wheel-hub and with holes in body member 3. The body member is connected to the chassis 25 by the brackets 4.
