Abstract
Zirconyl chloroaluminates of the formula ZrO.(AlO)2.Cl2X2, where X2 is Cl2 or (OH)2, may be prepared by reacting zirconium oxychloride with an aqueous solution of an aluminium alkoxide, preferably one of 1 to 5 carbon atoms, for example aluminium isopropoxide or aluminium butyl alkoxide. To obtain the tetrachloro compound hydrochloric acid should additionally be present in the reaction mixture. The alcohol formed by the reaction may be distilled off from the solution obtained, and the compounds may be obtained in solid form by evaporation. They may be used as the active ingredient in anti-perspirant compositions (see Group VI). Specification 890,579 is referred to.ALSO:Anti-perspirant compositions contain zirconyl chloro aluminates of the formula <FORM:0890578/VI/1> where X is Cl or (OH) as the active ingredient. They may be employed in solution, creams, lotions, or sprays, for example in combination with water, organic liquids, e.g. 20% isopropanol, gum tragacanth, petrolatum, and glyceryl monoesters such as glyceryl monolaurate or monostearate. The composition preferably contains from 1 to 10 parts by weight of the active ingredient per 10 parts by weight of carrier. Specification 890,579 is referred to.
