Abstract

890,057. Finishing yarns. SCRAGG & SONS Ltd., ERNEST. Aug. 3, 1960 [Aug. 22, 1959], No. 28786/59. Class 120(3) Apparatus for heating a running yarn, as in a shrinking, stretching, twist-setting or false-twist crimping process, comprises spaced, smooth elements which guide the yarn in a generally curved path and a heater which applies heat e.g. by radiation or conduction from hot gas and/or by convection, to the yarn as it moves along such path. As shown, yarn 2 is fed under a slight tension by driven nip rollers 3, 4, through a guide 5 into a thermally insulated casing 10 having an extractor vent 11 connected to a pump 12, and is withdrawn therefrom through a guide 6 by driven nip rollers 7, 8. The yarn passes over smooth pins 1 located on an arcuate or partially elliptical curve and is heated by an electric resistance heater 9 which maintains the pins at a temperature in excess of that of the yarn. The yarn path may be shaped concavely or convexly in relation to the heater.
