Abstract
889,738. Knitting-machines. HOBOURNF. N. F. Ltd. April 4, 1960 [April 14, 1959], No. 12666/59. Class 74 (2). The needle bar 23 of a flat warp machine is driven at each drive point from a pair of eccentrics 39, 43 which operate in parallel, eccentric 39 rotating at twice the speed of eccentric 43, through two rods 37, 41 connecting the eccentrics to a cross-head 35, and through mechanism including a bell crank 31 connected to the cross-head at a point 34 between the connections 36, 40 to the two connecting rods, guide bars 45-50 also being driven from the eccentrics through the connecting rods and cross-head and through further mechanism which includes a rod 63 connected to the crosshead at a position 64 on that side of point 40 remote from 36. The distance between points 36 and 34 is twice that between points 34 and 40 and the distance between points 40 and 64 is substantially equal to that between points 40 and 34. The eccentrics 39, 43 have the same eccentricity and are in phase. The bell-crank 31 drives through a U-shaped lever 25 pivoted at 26 to an arm 27 pivoted on a fixed shaft 28. The rod 63 drives through pin and slot connection 61, 62, bell-crank 60 and push rod 58. The arrangement provides that the needles move as in Fig. 6, with a dwell and slight downward movement in their uppermost position, whilst the guide eyes carry out the movement of Fig. 8, which is nearly a mirror image of that of the needles, but displaced from it by 180 degrees. When, say, only two guide bars are used, the guides do not need so long a dwell for shogging at the backs of the needles and simple harmonic motion is preferable. To this end, the rod 63 is detached from the crosshead and, by means of an extension 97 of the rod, is connected at 98 to the connecting rod 41 so that it is influenced only by the eccentric 43. Tongue bar 66 is driven through a U-shaped lever 68 supported on a pivoted arm 69 and pivoted to a bell-crank 72 in turn driven through a crosshead 74 and connecting rods 75, 76 by eccentrics 77, 78 on the shafts 13, 14. The throws and angular relationship of the eccentrics 77, 78 are such that the tongues close the needle hooks just as the needles start to descend at the righthand side of Fig. 6, maintain them closed during all this descent and open them rapidly as the needles start to rise. The sinker bar 82 is, at each drive point, supported on an arm 83 swinging at 84 on an arm 85 mounted on a fixed shaft 86 and linked through pin and slot connection 88, 87 to a lever 89 pivoted on a shaft 32, and connected at 91 to a crosshead 92, in turn connected by rods 93, 94 to eccentrics 95, 96 on shafts 13, 14. Specification 524,969 is referred to.
