Abstract
889,594. Aircraft instruments. KELVIN & HUGHES Ltd. March 24, 1959 [March 24, 1958], No. 9331/58. Class 40 (1). Data such as air speed, altitude, rate of change of altitude and Mach number are derived from the output shafts of two pressure transducers of the type described in Specification 889,595. In Fig. 2 pressure transducer 80 is fed with pitot and static pressure and the output shaft position forms signal 82 which is proportional to Pitot- Static pressure this is corrected at 85 for Probe position errors to form " corrected P-S " signal. A second transducer 83 is fed with static pressure only and produces a signal which, corrected for probe position errors at 90, gives " corrected S " signal. Air speed indicator 88 is driven via a data transmission system 87 from cam 86 which is of a form to give a log (P-S) signal from the corrected P-S signal. Altimeter.-The corrected P signal is compensated for ground pressure by a second input to differential 107 from a manual adjuster 93 and the compensated signal fed, via data transmission system 92, to indicator 93 calibrated to read altitude directly. Rate of change of height is obtained by driving a tacho generator with the " corrected P signal " and indicated on 100 via data processing and transmission system 97 and 99. Mach number M.-Computer 101, fed with. (P-S) and S signals, evaluates M<SP>2</SP> from the P-S equation M<SP>2</SP> = - cam 103 gives an output S shaft position proportional to M which is indicated on 104 via data transmission system 105.
