Abstract

888,488. Two-part couplings. BRITISH CENTRAL ELECTRICAL CO. Ltd. Sept. 15, 1959 [June 17, 1958], No. 19386/58. Class 38 (1). An electrical distributing box of the kind including a number of sockets for connection to the supply mains and arranged for receiving plugs comprises an insulating base 10, e.g. of rubber, formed with narrow concentric grooves 11, 12 and 13, which accommodate three contact strips 47, 48 and 49, one for connection to each conductor of the supply cable and formed with sockets 50 to 53, 56 to 59 and 62 to 65 housed in enlarged recesses in the grooves. The groups of sockets 62, 56 and 50, 63, 57 and 51, 64, 58 and 52 and 65, 59 and 53 are appropriately spaced for the pins of a standard threepin plug, and a coverplate 8 (Figs. 4 to 6, not shown), secured to the base is provided with openings which register with the groups of sockets. A lead-in recess 16 for the supply cable is provided in the base and a cartridgetype fuse, not shown, in the connection between the cable and the contact strip 49 may be accommodated in a T-shaped recess 19 formed at the end of the outer groove 13. The coverplate may be formed with or have secured thereto thin flexible material which extends over the openings for the plug pins to prevent the entry of dirt or moisture, the material being slit to allow the introduction of the pins. Another set of grooves may be formed in the other face of the base 10 for accommodating contact strips, the sockets on one face being suitable for one size of plugs and the sockets on the other face for different sized plugs.
