[Also in Group XVI] Web is wound into rolls on cores supported by mandrels, a horizontal conveyer being provided to move an empty core toward a mandrel prior to a winding operation, resilient pusher means being attached to the conveyer so as to push the core in one direction of travel and then pass by the core when it is in position on the mandrel. As shown, a turret 11, Fig. 3, has a plurality of mandrels 12 movable into a coreloading position B. A frame 14 has a sub-frame 15 extending in alignment with a mandrel 12 in position B, the frame 15 supporting an endless chain 16. The chain has pairs of core-supporting saddles 17, 17a, Fig. 1, which support a core 18. A pusher 19 having spring-urged jaws 46, Fig. 3, is associated with each pair of saddles for pushing a core on to a mandrel in position B. The jaws 46 are of rubber, or other resilient material so that they can flex rearwardly. The chain 16, Fig. 1, is actuated by a chain 20 driven by a motor 20a. Cores 19 are delivered singly to the chain 16 by a hopper 21 provided with a mechanism 40 that only admits a single core to the lower part of the hopper. The mechanism 40, Fig. 3, comprises a plate 41 rocked about a pivot 42 by a cam 43. A stop-mechanism 22, Fig. 4, has a shaft 23 carrying downwardly-extending fingers 25 which control the supply of cores to the saddles. The finger 25 is shown in a corereleasing position in Fig. 4, the finger being rocked clockwise into core-holding position by an air cylinder 26. Wound rolls 37, Fig. 3, are unloaded from their mandrels at a position C by a conveyer 29 having pusher members 29a. A piston in a fluid-pressure cylinder 31 actuates a lever 34 carrying a pusher rod 36 to move unloaded rolls 37 transversely of the conveyer on to a shoot 38.
