Abstract

886,713. Cleaning walls and ceilings. WALKER, W. H. July 14, 1960 [July 15, 1959], No. 24312/59. Class 138 (1). The removal of wallpaper, distemper, &c., from the surface of a wall or ceiling is facilitated by treating the surface with steam provided by an apparatus comprising a water storage container 10 having an electric heater 19 for generating steam, and which communicates with a chamber 12 having a perforated wall 14 through which steam is discharged on to the surface to be treated whilst the apparatus is held by a handle 13. The container 10 is filled with water through an aperture normally closed by a plate 16 pivoted to the wall 10. A perforated baffle 18 prevents the spilling of water into the chamber 12 during operation of the appliance. A modified construction is described in which the water container is located directly behind the steam chamber and connects with the latter through a central conduit.
