Abstract

886,705. Hollow cylinders for paper-making machines &c. VOITH G.m.b.H., J. M. Sept. 1, 1960 [Sept. 12, 1959], No. 30127/60. Class 34(1) A steam-heated high-speed rotating cylinder, particularly for paper-making and like machines, comprises at least one draining device and means therein which rotate with the cylinder to perturb and agitate the layers of condensed water on the cylinder wall. The means may comprise strips 2, Fig. 1, on diametrically opposite sides inside the cylinder 1 which are urged into contact with the wall by struts 3 connected by a turnbuckle 4, or spaced strips 5, Fig. 2, held in contact with the wall by several divided expanding rings 6 fitted with expansion screws 4. The radial height of the strips is at least equal to the radial depth of the ring of condensed water and the draining device (not shown) comprises a siphon either stationary or secured to the cylinder. The strips may extend across the entire length of the cylinder or they may occupy part thereof and be staggered in relation to one another.
