Abstract
885,335. Mounting furnace electrodes. KNAPSACK-GRIESHEIM A.G. Nov. 2, 1959 [Nov. 5, 1958], No. 37164/59. Class 39(3) In an electric furnace having continuous selfbaking electrodes each comprising a metal shell and a metal reinforcement, (a) current supply leads are attached to the unbaked part of each electrode from 1 to 5 meters above the top of the baked part. (b) current is conducted only through the metal shell and reinforcement to the baked part, (c) a current density not exceeding 2À5 amps/ mm.<SP>2</SP> is maintained in the shell and reinforcement, and (d) the proportion of the cross-section of the shell and reinforcement to the total electrode cross-section is such that the specific current load does not exceed 4 amps/cm.<SP>2</SP>. Supporting, lifting and lowering devices may be provided engaging the upper ends of the electrodes, and the current supply means may be stationary.
