A vehicle-mounted concrete mixer has a drum D mounted at the front on a trunnion 10 and universal joint 16, and resting at the rear end on rollers 12. A driving chain 38 entrained round the drum retains it on the rollers and is driven by a sprocket 36 carried on a traversely arranged reduction gear box 37 which is pivoted at one end on a pin 41, Fig. 3, and guided at the other by a pin 43 moving in a slotted bracket 44. The sprocket 36 is embraced by a yoke 56 restrained by a screw and nut 52, 55 by which the tension of the chain 38 may be adjusted. Power for operating the reduction gear box 37 and thus rotating the drum is derived from the vehicle engine through a transmission shaft 72, clutch 70, change-speed and reverse gear box 67, and universallyjointed or other flexible transmission 68. The rollers 12 and reduction gear box 37 are carried in a frame 13 braced by rods 27; a standard frame 13 may be adapted for use with drums of different sizes, its inclination being adjusted by using brace rods 27 of suitable length. There is a charging hopper 31, and a shoot 33 through which concrete may be discharged by reversing the direction of rotation of the drum.
