Abstract

A locking mechanism suitable for domestic outside doors having a key-operated lock 12 including a first securement means 13 for engagement with a first keep 14 mounted on a frame for the door and comprising a further securement means 21 for engagement with a second keep 23 mounted on the door frame at a location spaced apart from the first keep, the second securement means being reversibly moveable from a first position in which it is in engagement with the second keep to a second position in which it is out of engagement with the second keep; biassing means 25 to bias the second securement means towards second position; restraint means 26 which, in a first mode, interacts with the first securement means to restrain the second securement means from movement under the influence of the biassing means, as shown and in a second mode relieved of such interaction, permits the second securement means to move under said influence, the restraint means being actuatable into said first mode by actuating means 24 on or adjacent the door and being actuatable into said second mode by the actuating means 24 and locked in that mode by means of a key or the like operating said lock from the outside of the door. <IMAGE>
