Abstract

882.258. Collapsible road vehicle bodies. VIDAL, H., [trading as VIDAL & CO., HERBERT]. July 6, 1959 [July 7, 1958], No. 23151/59. Class- 108(1). A road vehicle body has side members 6, 7 which may be extended or retracted by means of a mechanism which both supports and positively drives the tops and bottoms of the side pieces. The mechanism comprises worm and wheel 25, 26 rotating a shaft 8 and pulleys 13, 14 connected by cables or chains to pulleys 17, 18 having nuts 19 threaded on screw shafts 21, 22 fixed to the side members 6, 7. Nuts 27, 28 fixed to the bottom of the members 6, 7 move with the members outwardly along the threaded shaft 8 as it is rotated to extend the sides, and the screwed shafts 21, 22 fixed to the tops of the extension members move from a position where they are contained within the rigid body part to the extended position shown in Fig. 2. In a modification, Fig. 4, the pulleys are replaced by bevel gears and the roof structure is raisable on screwed shafts 54, 55,
