Abstract

The invention comprises triazine-hydrazine derivatives of the formula <FORM:0881340/IV (b)/1> wherein R1 represents a hydrazino, hydroxy, carboxy, alkyl or aralkyl group and R2 represents hydrogen or a hydroxy, carboxy, aryl or aralkyl group and also an alkyl group when R1 represents hydrazino, and acid addition salts thereof, e.g. with hydrohalic, nitric, sulphuric, phosphoric, arylsulphonic, malic, salicylic, tartaric, citric, ascorbic and mandelic acids. The compounds of the above formula are prepared by reacting a compound of the formula <FORM:0881340/IV (b)/2> wherein R1 represents hydrogen or a methyl group, R4 represents a mercapto, methylmercapto, hydroxy, carboxy, alkyl or aralkyl group, and R2 represents hydrogen or a hydroxy, carboxy, aryl or aralkyl group and also an alkyl group when R4 represents mercapto or methylmercapto, with hydrazine or hydrazine hydrate. Monomercapto-triazines of the formula <FORM:0881340/IV (b)/3> are prepared by refluxing thiosemicarbazones of the formula <FORM:0881340/IV (b)/4> with sodium hydroxide. The mercapto group may be subsequently converted to a methylmercapto group by treatment with methyl iodide. Dimercapto-triazines of the formula <FORM:0881340/IV (b)/5> where R3 represents hydrogen, are prepared by reacting monomercapto hydrazines of the formula <FORM:0881340/IV (b)/6> with phosphorus pentasulphide. The mercapto groups may be subsequently converted to methylmercapto groups (R3=methyl) by treatment with methyl iodide. Thiosemicarbazones of the formula <FORM:0881340/IV (b)/7> wherein R represents hydrogen, a monovalent metal atom or C1-4 alkyl group, are prepared by reacting an acid-aldehyde or an acid ketone of the formula: R2-CO-COOR with thiosemicarbazide.
