Abstract
881,310. Checking receipts. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. Feb. 26, 1959 [March 31, 1958], No. 6666/59. Class 106 (1). Apparatus for stacking tickets is combined with a cash register which is caused to operate on the insertion of a ticket into the stacking apparatus, and at the same time an operating member is actuated to bring feed rollers for the ticket into operative relationship, to complete a circuit for a drive motor for the stacking apparatus which rotates the feed rollers, and to move the fed ticket into the stack. The apparatus is used for stacking price tickets for subsequent analysis. For normal entry operations in the cash register the insertion of the ticket, after the data has been set up on the cash register keyboard and a release key depressed, initiates operation of the cash register. The ticket is inserted into a shoot 95 against a stop 99 and rocks an arm 107 to close a switch 109 which is in series with a switch 132 controlled by a feeler 135 which when a ticket is inserted allows the switch to close only when the ticket is properly positioned to enable the feeler to enter a control perforation in the ticket. The feeler 135 may be withdrawn to allow the withdrawal of a ticket by a hand-lever 210. The switches 109 and 132 are also in series with a switch 26, Figs. 10 (not shown) and 12, which with an associated switch 51, is closed by the machine release mechanism of the cash register on depression of a release key. Circuits are thus completed for the motor 25 of the cash register and a solenoid 103. The latter withdraws the stop 99 and also rocks the operating member (a lever 167) which closes switches 170, 171, to energize a motor 152 in the stacking apparatus and complete a holding circuit for the cash register motor 25. The lever 167 also releases a roller 141 which presses the ticket against a feed roller 140, driven with a roller 150 (associated with a pressure roller 154) by the motor 152. The ticket is thus fed downwardly. The lever 167 also withdraws the stacking member 207, from the stack of tickets 111 in a removable tray 160, to the dotted-line position so that the ticket is fed between the member and the stack. At the end of the cash register cycle, the switches 26, 51 are opened to de-energize the motor 25 and solenoid 103, and thus the motor 152 also. On de-energization of the solenoid 103, the lever 167 is restored by a spring and causes the stacking member 207 to move the newly inserted ticket into the stack where it is retained by the turned-in ends of resilient fingers. When a total is to be taken in the cash register, the total control lever is moved from its normal add position and, in the present arrangement, actuates a switch 62 so as to allow operation of the cash register in the absence of an inserted ticket in the stacking apparatus, and also to prevent operation of that apparatus by the solenoid 103. Operation of the cash register in the absence of a ticket is also possible in No-sale and Tax operations since the corresponding keys close switches 81, 83 to short-circuit the ticket sensing switch 109. The same result may be achieved by operating a switch 228 in the stacking apparatus by means of an inserted key 225, Fig. 3.
