Abstract

881,297. Securing bearing-races on shafts. ALUMINIUM-INDUSTRIE-A.G. Dec. 21, 1959 [Dec. 24, 1958], No. 43357/59. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXIV] In a rolling mill the roll journal 2 is supported by a journal bearing 3 and a ball or like thrust bearing 4, the inner race of which is connected to a yieldable device for rotation therewith. Deflections at the end of the roll are absorbed by the yieldable device, and the bearing 4 takes only the axial thrust. The device comprises a rod 5 secured by a flange to the end of the roll and a tube 6 integral with the inner race of bearing 4. The free ends of these members are connected and both are capable of transmitting axial stresses to the bearing, lens are sufficiently elastic to take up radial deflections. In a modification, the rod 5 is connected to the roll 2, and the tube 6, by a ball and socket joint 9, rotary motion being transmitted by pin 58 in the balls which engage wedges in the sockets (not shown).
