Class 20(2) A strut or tie rod for mine arches and girders comprises a rod or tube a each end of which is screwthreaded and provided with a fixed claw b, a tightening nut e and an adjustable claw c having guide flanges d, f. The flange f may be dispensed with, see Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), or the unit c, d replaced by a U-shaped member having apertured legs to locate same on the rod a, see Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). The fixed claws may be replaced by adjustable claws with individual tightening nuts.
