Abstract

880,043. Air filters. KING & CO. Ltd., H. J. H. June 13, 1960 [June 16, 1959], No. 20565/59. Class 8(2). Reverse flow cleaning of inward flow filter elements 10, Fig. 1, each located in an open bottomed compartment 11 having a clean air outlet 19, leading to an outlet manifold 12 is effected sequentially by a pulse of compressed air issuing from a reservoir (not shown) through a duct 26 having its outlet 30 controlled by a spring-biassed piston valve 32 which opens at a predetermined air pressure to allow access of compressed air to a distributing valve chamber 38 and hence to one of a ring of fronts 41, Fig. 2, and a nozzle 40 connected thereto by a duct 39 according to the disposition of a front 43 in the valve disc 42 which is indexed by the piston 32 through a pawl and rocket mechanism. In a modification confined to two filter elements the distributing valve plate is rocked between two positions by engagement with a cam slot therein by a link connected to the pressure responsive piston. In a further modification each pulse passes to the distributer valve chamber through axially extending grooves between the piston and its cylinder.
