In a stretching frame for large pieces of textile fabric, having at least one stretching beam 20, Fig. 1, and one adjustable stretching bar 11 at right-angles thereto, bar 11 is guided parallelly by two cords 17a, 17b anchored to the corners of the frame and passing over rollers 17 on bar 11 as shown in Fig. 5. Beam 20, which is counterweighted, is adjustable vertically on side frame members 3, 4 by means of a crank 25 which operates pinions 27, 28 engaging toothed racks or chains 29, a pawl .with release lever 30 serving to fix the beam at any desired height. As shown in Fig. 1, two stretching bars 11, 12 are provided and are fitted with latches 18, operated by knobs 181, engaging notches in the top and bottom frame members 1, 2. A bar 9, adjustable on frame member 1, beam 20, bar 11 and frame member 4 are each provided with a needle bar 11 for gripping the fabric edge. Large pieces of fabric are draped over a beam 6, located just below bar 9, and secured with both horizontal edges fixed to beam 20. Scales 31, 32 are provided on frame member 4 and beam 2 respectively.
