Abstract
877,934. Eyepieces. WOEHLER, F. A. June 17, 1958 [June 27, 1957], No. 19326/58. Class 97(1) An optical instrument (e.g. a telescope or binoculars) eye piece comprises an eye lens k and a field lens n axially movable relative to each other to provide variable magnification, said lens having follower members g, h which move in oppositely directed helical slots in an adjusting tube d which is rotatably arranged in a tubular casing c, the lenses being constrained against rotation relative to said casing; for example, the screws follower members may project into a longitudinal slot o in said casing. The adjusting tube may be rotated by a ring p connected to the tube and bearing a scale which is read against a datum mark on a part i<SP>1</SP> on the mount i of lens k. The eyepiece is focused by rotating a ring q attached to the casing c which is adjustably screw-threded in a socket a. The casing may be locked in a particular focusing position by rotating a ring r so that it is brought into frictional engagement with an eccentric interior surface of a skirt q <SP>1</SP> on ring q. When used in binoculars the adjusting tubes d of the pair of eyepieces are provided with two adjusting rings which are connected together by a common central gear wheel. The corresponding slots e, f in the two tubes are oppositely directed.
