876,844. Compression moulding-machines. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 3, 1958 [Nov. 14, 1957], No. 35553/57. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXII] A press for forming a casting mould, &c., by forcing a pattern member 7a into a mass 19 to be shaped, comprises means 11 movable towards a co-operating pressure member 9 to provide side retaining walls to confine the mass. In operation, a plastic mass 19 is placed on the support 9, the box 11 is raised by a ram 17 to surround the mass and the pattern 7a on a plate 20 is forced downwardly to shape the mass. The plate 20 engages the box 11 and moves it downwardly until pressing is complete. The plate 20 is capable of slight movement relative to the press-head 6 and is vibrated by pneumatic means 23 to free the pattern from the mould. The head 6 and the box 11 are then separated. The press may produce half-moulds similar to those described in Specification 876,843. Specifications 812,352 and 847,909 also are referred to.
